...The Project

A group of writers--all friends regularly contributing to The Clobberin' Times, the Champions amateur press alliance (A.P.A.)--got together and discussed the idea of creating a shared world to write in. The idea was simple...each writer would create their own hero, and choose a city for that hero to be in. The world would be created by the group, and certain things decided upon, but the directions the characters (and city) would take would be all up to the individual writer. There would be creative freedom within a greater context.

The world that was created was called ConTinuum (a name taken from the idea that this world was discussed and created while all the writers involved were attending the San Diego Comic-Con together). The writers created their heroes and cities, and the stories they began to write appeared every other issue in a special ConTinuum section of the Clobberin' Times. These characters, cities and stories have now come to the web, and are joined together at the ConTinuum Home Page.

Windjammer, the hero of Phoenix, Arizona, created by Michael O'Connell, is one of the six ConTinuum heroes. The others are K.C. Ryan's Americana of Washington D.C., Joel B. Levy's Knightguard of San Diego, Kaye Bellot's Argent Vite of Paris, Jeff Baumgardner's Cameo of Boston, and Ben Bellot's Samhain of New York City.

...The World of Windjammer

Welcome to Phoenix, Arizona, an oasis in the desert of the American Southwest. Here, in a world that has only just discovered its first super-heroes, a young heartthrob surfing the winds on a futuristic board has captured the attention and imagination of the whole planet.

It's here (and sometimes away from here, as you'll discover in chapters to follow) that the stories of Windjammer are told. The series is, of course, a super-hero story, filled with powers and villains and action. But more than that, it's the story of a young man coming to terms with who he is, and with the destiny that seems to have been thrust upon him. It's about dealing with the temptations and trappings and insanity of sudden, global fame. It's about relationships, and how they're affected in the context of the extraordinary events of a hero's life. It's at times a love story, and focuses on real human emotion and issues often missing in the genre as a whole. And more than merely a series of super-heroic tales, Windjammer has been planned, from the beginning, as a huge, epic story arc that builds toward a cataclysmic finale with world-changing ramifications. As the tale goes on, more is revealed, and the true destiny of the hero called Windjammer will be discovered, as will his place in the history of mankind.
