Boyz-E Weekend

(05/04/07 - 05/06/07)

Back when I was living in San Diego, the usual weekend crew was me, Aaron, Russ and Tony. We'd generally hook up on weekends, if for nothing else just to have drinks and cigars and barbeque on Russ's back patio. That all started ending when I left for Sacramento and Aaron moved to Seattle, but it really came to a close when Russ up and moved to Boise, ID in late 2006. He started talking about wanting to have us three other guys come and visit for an old-school MAN weekend, to hang out and check out his new house and new town. And so it came to pass that in the first week of May of '07, Tony, Aaron and I flew from our respective cities to Boise. Sure, we could have run all over the area sight-seeing and going out on the town. We did a LITTLE of that (Friday night and Sunday afternoon). But mainly? We kept it WAY old school. We mainly ended up sitting on our asses in Russ's living room playing a 4-player X-Box game. This, for those of you single guys who don't know this, IS paradise for married guys (just ask the married and soon-to-be married guys I was there with). So a good time was had by all...and a really lazy time, too...and it was fantastic getting the band back together, even for a couple of days.

So, you ever see that "Friends" episode with Chandler and Joey and the recliners? Russ is living the dream... Here's Aaron, Russ and Tony, COLD kicking it XBox style.
"No, LEFT!" Russ commands. "Left!" You'd think Aaron and Tony had never penetrated an alien stronghold before. God.
Russ and Tony, probably on about hour 23 of that game. Did I mention that at the end of this weekend we were actually all SORE? That's right, SORE from videogaming. I'll take "Ways to know you've gotten too old" for $100, Alex...
See, we actually got out and SAW Boise, too. You know, for a few minutes, at least (screw you! You know how close we came to finishing that game?!). Hey, it's the Idaho state Capital building.
O'Connell/Williams, 2008. Vote for us. We know people. And we can take care of that union problem for you, too...
Me, Aaron and Tony, stinking up Idaho. Can you just see the obvious videogame hangovers?
Actually, did you notice that while I had time to exhale smoke and smile for the camera, neither of them moved at all? I think they might have been asleep. But, we saved the Skrull Homeworld from Galactus, so I think it was all worth it.
